We are very excited to announce the General Availability (GA) of Exact Data Match (EDM) available to all Umbrella DLP customers.
What is Exact Data Match and what is the value to Umbrella customers?
Exact Data Match is an advanced data classification and detection technique allowing customers to protect their sensitive data records maintained in a tabular format, by only matching against the values of their genuine records. Some examples of sensitive records are customer records, employee records, and corporate credit card records.
Umbrella’s Exact Data Match solution is a high-efficacy solution that reduces false positives while increasing true positives, helping customers protect their most critical data assets.
EDM fingerprints sensitive data records from structured sources, such as databases or spreadsheets, then monitors the fingerprinted data and blocks it from being shared or transferred inappropriately.
The EDM Identifiers (i.e. fingerprints) can be utilized with both SaaS API DLP and Realtime DLP using the same data classification, a multimode capability by design.
Does this mean we store copies of customer-sensitive data with EDM?
No, we do not store a copy of customer data. Instead, Umbrella customers use EDM indexer tool that can be downloaded from the Umbrella dashboard to create irreversible hashes of their records and upload them to our DLP service. In turn, the DLP scanning service will use these hashes to match against the scanned content.
Where in Umbrella can I configure the EDM?
1. Navigate to Policies > Data Classification > Exact Data Match Identifiers.
