Issue
An issue has been reported by some customers when upgrading the "OpenDNS Connector" to version 1.1.18*. This component is part of Cisco Umbrella's Active Directory integration feature.
*NOTE: The 1.1.18 update was released as part of a phased released cycle. This update is not yet available to most customers and as such most organizations are unaffected.
NOTE: the 1.1.18 update has been halted for additional customers.
The issue affects customers without the .NET Framework 3.5 installed.
Impact
The Connector component will stop updating its status in the Umbrella Dashboard and may appear stuck in an 'Upgrading' status in 'Settings > Sites and Active Directory'.
The Connector stops processing new user login events which affects the accuracy of policies based on Users, Computers of Groups. Existing AD login information will be retained, but the AD User/Computer information is not updated when users move to a new IP address.
DNS resolution is not affected. However, users may receive an unexpected filtering policy.
Resolution
Check the status of your connector in 'Settings > Sites and Active Directory'
- If your connector is on version 1.1.16 / 1.1.18 with no updates available, then no action is required.
- If your connector is stuck in an 'Upgrading' to 1.1.18 state then follow the steps below.
Option 1 - Correct the .NET Framework configuration
This issue can be corrected without re-installation by adding the attached file 'OpenDNSAuditClient.exe.config' to the following directory:
C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenDNS\OpenDNS Connector\v1.1.18
The Connector upgrade should complete automatically.
Option 2 - Re-Install the OpenDNS Connector
Optionally, this issue can be corrected by re-installing the latest connector version:
- Uninstall the OpenDNS Connector software from Windows 'Programs and Features'
- Delete the affected OpenDNS Connector component from 'Settings > Sites and Active Directory'
- Download the latest OpenDNS Connector component from 'Settings > Sites and Active Directory' and re-install
- Ensure the Connector is assigned to the appropriate Umbrella site in 'Settings > Sites and Active Directory'
Option 3 - Install Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5
Optionally, this issue can be corrected by installing version 3.5 of the Microsoft .NET Framework. Note, there is no need to uninstall any other versions of the .NET framework that already exist on the server.
The Connector upgrade should complete automatically.
