Cisco is announcing the End-of-Life & End-of-Support for Umbrella Chromebook Client (DNS) v1.x on 31st Dec 2023. This comes in alignment with Google’s End of Support for Manifest v2 which impacts the Umbrella Chromebook Client.
This announcement has no impact on SWG Umbrella Chromebook Client.
Product Migration Options
Cisco is developing a replacement DNS security client for Chromebooks using DoH (DNS over HTTPS) as recommended by Google. Please refer to this article for more information on Umbrella's support for DoH.
The replacement Chromebook client will be available before the 1.x EOL, so that customers have sufficient time to upgrade to the new client. We will update as timelines become available.
Action for Customers
Google has announced that it will start supporting User Identification with DoH starting with Chrome OS (Operating System) 110 onwards. For all Umbrella Chromebook customers to move to the new DoH based client, their Chromebooks must support OS upgrade to 110 and onwards.
