Overview
Cisco is announcing some significant changes to the Umbrella Chromebook Client (DNS) in response to the deprecation of Google's Manifest Version 2 APIs. Umbrella Chromebook Client (DNS) v1.x will reach End-of-Life & End-of-Support on December 31, 2023, but a replacement and migration plan will be implemented as outlined below.
Please note that this announcement does not impact SWG Umbrella Chromebook Client.
Product Migration Options
Cisco is developing a replacement DNS security client for Chromebooks using DoH (DNS over HTTPS) as recommended by Google. Please refer to this article for more information on Umbrella's support for DoH.
The replacement Chromebook client will be available before the 1.x EOL (End of Life), so customers have enough time to upgrade to the new client. We will update as timelines become available.
Action for Customers
Google has announced that it will start supporting User Identification with DoH starting with Chrome OS (Operating System) 110 onwards. For all Umbrella Chromebook customers to move to the new DoH based client, their Chromebooks must support OS upgrade to 110 and onwards.
