Overview
Cisco is announcing important changes to the Umbrella Chromebook Client (Legacy Chromebook DNS Client). These changes are in response to Google's transition from Manifest Version 2 (MV2) to Manifest Version 3 (MV3) APIs.
Google's Updated MV2 Phase-Out Timeline
In light of Google's recent changes to the Manifest Version 2 Timelines, customers need to enable the ExtensionManifestV2Availability policy in their Google Admin Console. This change is necessary to ensure the Umbrella Chromebook Client continues to function until June 2025.

End-of-Life & End-of-Support Schedule
We want to assure you that the Umbrella Chromebook Client will continue to be supported until June 2025, provided the 'ExtensionManifestV2Availability' policy is implemented as prescribed in the following article Take Action Now: Enable the ExtensionManifestV2Availability Policy. We pledge to keep you informed of any changes.
Product Migration Options
In response to Google's transition and to provide our customers with enhanced security and performance, we are excited to introduce the new Cisco Security for Chromebook client as a replacement solution for the Umbrella Chromebook Client. - Implement the 'ExtensionManifestV2Availability' policy as instructed in this Take Action Now: Enable the ExtensionManifestV2Availability Policy.

To smoothly transition to the new client, we recommend the following steps:
- Ensure your Chromebooks are compatible with an OS upgrade to Chrome OS version 110 and onwards. Check compatibility at this link: Chrome OS Supported Builds.
