On April 24th 2023, our second edge data center in Tokyo started accepting traffic. The Tokyo 2 data center will initially support DNS and Secure Web Gateway services only.
Inbound traffic to the Tokyo 2 data center is controlled by anycast routing, so no customer action is required.
This is our first edge data center using some IP addresses from the 151.186.0.0/16 subnet. As noted in the prior announcement, proxy traffic is still expected to egress from 155.190.0.0/16 under normal conditions.
This new edge data center expands our rapidly growing Global Network and is our third edge data center in Japan. Due to our innovative Global Cloud Architecture and anycast routing, each additional data center reduces latency and increases overall availability.
Also, while we strive to maintain high uptime for all of our data centers, our augmented routing solution seamlessly and automatically routes traffic to the next nearest data center if, for any reason, a data center is unavailable.
April 19th Update:
While SWG traffic will egress from 155.190.0.0/16, the SWG servers will use 151.186.0.0/16 for ingress (I.E. proxy.sig.umbrella.com will resolve to IPs in the 151.186.0.0/16 range for servers in Tokyo 2). If you limit outbound connectivity on your network and endpoints, please be sure to add an allow rule for 151.186.0.0/16. The full list of firewall recommendations for SWG is available here.
