Umbrella DLP now support built-in data classifications for leading data privacy regulations.
Built-in Data Classifications simplify compliance with leading data privacy standards such as GDPR, PCI-DSS, and HIPAA by making it an easy selection from a list of predefined options and eliminating the most complex part of DLP rule creation.
What are data classifications?
Data classifications are groups of data identifiers combined for the purpose of monitoring or blocking closely related content. For example, you can create a data classification that encompasses medically related content by including the built-in identifiers for ICD codes, drug names, prescription names, health conditions, and national drug code names. The classification, when applied to a rule in the Data Loss Prevention Policy, will monitor or block content matching those identifiers.
How do built-in data classifications simplify DLP policy management?
Determining which set of built-in identifiers to use in a data classification can be a lengthy and complicated process, requiring a deep understanding of the data privacy standard and the Umbrella identifiers library. However, with built-in data classifications, DLP administrators can focus on defining the right set of access rules to sensitive data, rather than defining how to identify that sensitive data.
Are built-in data classifications available for both Realtime DLP and SaaS API DLP?
Like custom classifications, built-in data classifications are a fully supported multi-mode DLP feature and therefore work with both Realtime DLP and SaaS API DLP.
Which compliance standards and countries are supported?
The built-in data classifications in this release include the GDPR, HIPAA, PCI and PIIs classifications, with coverage for all EU countries, the UK, and the US.
Can I customize built-in data classifications?
Yes, a built-in data classification can be customized by duplicating it and then amending the identifiers in the copy.
The built-in classifications can be duplicated and customized here: Policies > Data Classifications
Where can I find the built-in data classifications in the Umbrella dashboard?
The built-in data classifications are ready to be selected and used with any DLP rule and Discovery Scan, managed from here: Policies > Data Loss Prevention Policy
Where can I find more information about the Built-in Data Classifications?
Detailed documentation is available here: Built-in Data Classification Templates
