Cisco is making an early announcement regarding significant upcoming changes to Cisco Umbrella Roaming Client software to provide adequate advance notice and support, and to ensure a smooth transition for our customers resulting from this important announcement.
For years, Cisco Umbrella customers have benefited from its lightweight client that provides Umbrella DNS security and policy-based protection, including our intelligent proxy. However, due to 3rd party software compatibility limitations, we have encouraged customers since 2022 to migrate to the alternative Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client software. Subsequently Cisco announced Cisco Secure Client to replace Cisco AnyConnect as the new unified security agent for Cisco Secure. Furthermore, Cisco announced the End-of-Life of Cisco AnyConnect earlier this year.
Cisco Secure Client includes all the Umbrella capability provided in the Umbrella Roaming Client and Cisco AnyConnect. Many Umbrella customers are already benefiting from improved compatibility with 3rd party software by virtue of migrating to Cisco Secure Client.
Cisco will be officially announcing the End-of-Life for Umbrella Roaming Client on April 2, 2024. Last Date of Support for Umbrella Roaming Client will be April 2, 2025. All Umbrella Roaming Client functionality is currently available in Cisco Secure Client. Cisco will be providing future innovations in Cisco Secure Client only. We recommend that customers begin planning and scheduling their migration now. Please refer to this KB article for guidance on how to migrate from the Umbrella Roaming Client to Cisco Secure Client.
Please contact your Cisco account representative should you require information on migration services for your organization. Further details about the End-of-Life of Umbrella Roaming Client will be made available April 2, 2024.
All customers with valid licenses and active Umbrella support contracts are eligible to migrate to Cisco Secure Client for entitlement to the Umbrella Roaming Security Module, which includes all the Umbrella Roaming Client capability, at no charge. Also, there is no additive charge to adopt the current version for any Cisco customer who is entitled to Cisco Umbrella either directly, or indirectly through another purchased Cisco service (including AnyConnect) which includes use of the client for that use case. Please review license information to learn more.
Additionally, Cisco is announcing End-of-sale of the OpenDNS Umbrella Prosumer and the OpenDNS Home VIP packages. Last date of sale for these packages will be April 2, 2024. Customers are encouraged to consider an Umbrella subscription instead. Please review the Cisco Umbrella website for more information.
