The Cisco Secure Client (CSC) is the primary roaming computer agent for Cisco Umbrella deployments, replacing both the AnyConnect 4.x Roaming Security Module, and the stand-alone Umbrella Roaming Client. Unlike these clients, however, the CSC does not automatically update, nor does it have an option to enable it in the Umbrella dashboard. Instead, your admins are given full control of the version being used in your environment.
To that end, there are several options available to keep the Cisco Secure Client and the Umbrella module up to date.
- Recommended: Most companies prefer to manage updates at their own pace through their own device management platform. The instructions for this can be found here: Umbrella Module for Cisco Secure Client - Command Line installation and RMM reference
- You can download the installer directly from your Umbrella Dashboard and update an individual machine. This is a particularly good option for trying out a new version before fully committing to it for your production devices.
- If you are a Cisco XDR customer, you can use the XDR portal to manage CSC deployments.
- Cloud deployment of the CSC can also be managed by using Cisco SecureX. However, SecureX will be End of Life on July 31, 2024. It's replacement, Secure Cloud Control, will be released for update control before SecureX reaches EOL, but is not yet available.
