From David Ulevitch, CEO of OpenDNS:
I am excited to let you know that today we announced that Cisco intends to acquire OpenDNS. You can read the official announcement here. Or on our blog, here:
Before I get into why I believe OpenDNS customers and partners like you will benefit from this news, I want to first thank you.
Today there are 65M daily active users of OpenDNS and more than 10,000 business customers, including small businesses, managed service providers, and global deployments with Fortune 500 companies. Each of you put your trust in our company, our team, and our security solutions and chose OpenDNS to secure your networks, endpoints, and employees. For that, we are thankful. We intend to continue to earn your trust every day going forward.
We’ve remained committed to innovation, cutting-edge research and delivering a threat-centric security model not found anywhere else. Over the years, we have invested heavily in our security technology and infrastructure to ensure that our global network prevents attacks before they can do harm. We typically don’t believe in playing the ‘security stats’ game, but to at least provide some sense of scale, we now block more than 80 million malicious requests each day.
In addition to delivering world-class threat prevention, we’ve also focused on delivering security in a way that’s easy to deploy and simple to manage. As the world continues to adapt to a new IT landscape brought about by the rapid adoption of mobile devices, cloud services, and an increasingly nomadic workforce, security needs to be everywhere, not just in the office. OpenDNS helps make that possible.
Cisco recognized the immense value that our customers receive, our commitment to delivering security everywhere, and similarities in our vision. With our complementary solutions and global security network, we can rapidly accelerate our mission while enhancing entire segments of the Cisco product line. We are excited about the possibilities.
So what happens next? Our focus will be the same as it has been for years. We will continue to provide world-class security solutions to you. We are still selling and supporting your services. You will get your support and answers from us in the same way. We will continue our mission to help the world connect with confidence on any device, anywhere, anytime by designing, developing and building world-class security services for the customers who rely on us.
We have a lot of work we intend to begin once Cisco completes the acquisition, and we look forward to sharing more details on that in the future.
Thank you, again, for your trust, support and commitment. As always, do not hesitate to contact us with any questions.
