Changes to Umbrella Navigation
We're very excited to introduce a new dashboard design and updated navigation for Umbrella!
The new design is a modern and cutting-edge approach to user experience and comes from having observed how our customers use our product and how it could improve. To get even more feedback, we'd like to introduce you to it early and let you try it out at your convenience.
Before the end of this week, we’ll be giving this new dashboard to all our customers, but for now, this preview is to get you used to using the new design and to get your feedback on what you do or don't like. It’s a one-click upgrade process and you can go back to the old experience any time you’d like. Perhaps most importantly, there's no loss of any existing functionality.
After having thousands of customers try it out and incorporating their feedback, we'll be upgrading your dashboard to the new look and feeling on November 10th, 2016.
So, what's changed?
At a high level, we’ve given the dashboard a makeover starting with adding more space for the features of the product that you use most often and making things easier to find. The new features include:
A new sidebar that lets you navigate to the major dashboard features even faster.
Optimized vertical space by removing the top part of the dashboard giving more room for the reports and the lists of deployed Identities.
An updated color scheme with a high contrast approach so that what you need to see stands out. The side menu bar is darkened to let you focus on the things that matter like policy configuration and reporting.
Improved menu sections that bring policy options together and separate out the list of deployed Identities. In general, the order of menu items is designed to make the most widely used parts of Umbrella easier to find while hiding options that are used less frequently.
The dashboard now adapts to your screen size and resolution. No matter if you’re on an extra large monitor at your desk, a laptop-sized screen, or even a mobile device, the dashboard will expand or collapse to fit. With a smaller screen or window, the left-hand menu bar will collapse into just a set of icons and if you're using an especially small screen—like a tablet—the left-hand menu will collapse into a little hamburger icon that you can click on to expand.
As OpenDNS is now a part of Cisco, we’ve also rebranded the dashboard to reflect our new product brand: Cisco Umbrella.
There is no loss of functionality here, we're just making it even easier to find what you want right away.
Great! How can I sign up and what do I need to know?
If you're ready to try out the new dashboard, you'll just need to click Upgrade on the overview page of your dashboard. That’s the only step you need to take.
When you click Upgrade, the new dashboard will only be applied to your user account on the dashboard. So if you're ready to try this out, but you're not sure about your colleagues, that’s no big deal.
Again, there's no functionality that is missing—all the reporting, identity management and everything else you're used to is in the new dashboard (although it may have moved around slightly).
If you find you're not ready for the new dashboard after the move, you can easily go back by clicking the Downgrade under your user account (under Settings > Users and Roles > Accounts).
How can I let you know what I think?
A big reason we're opening this dashboard up to early adoption is because we want to hear from you! If you find usability issues, concerns with the interface using a particular browser or if you found you had to go back to the old dashboard for any particular reason, please let us know. If there are things about the new design you especially like, we’d also like to hear about that so we can focus on those improvements.
