Google has announced the end of support for Chrome Apps on Chrome OS. Due to this update, Cisco announces the end-of-support dates for the Cisco Umbrella Chromebook client Version 1.x.x software (the “Umbrella Chromebook Client App” or the “App”) in alignment with Google’s announcement of decommissioning Chrome Apps for Chromebooks.
End of Support and Availability
Google has announced the end of support for Chrome apps in their end communication. For Cisco customers currently using the Umbrella Chromebook Client it will no longer be available for use as of June 2022.
Starting June 2021 through June 2022, Cisco support for the Umbrella Chromebook Client app will only include available severity 1 and security vulnerability fixes. Support (including maintenance) will require an active Umbrella service contract.
Product Migration Options
Cisco is developing an Android-based replacement application for Chromebook as the migration option for customers affected by Google’s EOS. Although substantial development for this application has been completed, we are awaiting guidance from Google regarding their plan to address functional gaps when using an Android app on Chrome OS. We will update this notification as we receive details impacting this migration option and expect to have an update available by October 2020. Resolution of these gaps is required before we can recommend a migration to the Android-based replacement.
When the replacement app is ready, this notification will be updated with a link to the new app and with deployment documentation. This replacement app will be available for no additional cost to customers using the Umbrella Chromebook client v1.x.x.
