If you're experiencing battery drain issues on an iOS device, an Umbrella Support technician might request a sysdiagnose. This article offers a detailed guide on how to execute this diagnostic correctly.
1. Download the system profile
Upon receiving a .mobileconfig file from a support tech via email, simply click on the file to initiate installation. This action will trigger the "Profile Downloaded" dialog to appear as demonstrated above.
2. Navigate to profiles
Navigate to Settings > Profile & Device Management.
3. Select Profile
Under Downloaded Profiles, select System Debug Profile by Apple Inc.
4. Install Profile
Click Install. It will give you prompts for your consent and passcode or password. Once complete, you can return to your home screen.
5. Activate sysdiagnose
On your iOS device, hold down the Volume Up, Volume Down and Power button at the same time for about .25 seconds. When the sysdiagnose has been started, you will feel a small vibration (except on iPads).
CAUTION: On some iOS devices, continuing to hold this combination for much longer will begin a countdown to activate the SOS emergency service call feature. If the SOS icon is replaced with a countdown timer, simply release the buttons. You have already held them long enough to activate the sysdiagnose.
6. Reproduce problem/run as normal
Now that the sysdiagnose has started, run the device as usual or as you did when you noticed the battery drain issue.
7. Navigate to analytics
Navigate to Settings > Privacy > Analytics & Improvements
8. Open Analytics Data
Select Analytics Data.
9. Find and select sysdiagnose file
This will present you with a large list of files. Scroll down until you see a file that starts with sysdiagnose_ and the date. If there are more than one, select the most recent one.
9. Share file to get it back to your device
Click the share icon in the top right corner. This will open the share controls dialog.
From here, you can get the files to your system in whatever way works best for you. Please note: The file is usually very large and therefor will be to large for email
Airdrop is the most convenient and will handle the large files well.
10. Upload files to Umbrella
Once the file is on your computer, upload it to the link the Umbrella Support tech has provided.
