Starting August 16th, 2021, the following Umbrella edge data center changes are in effect:
- Mumbai, India: Now enabled for full SIG services, including cloud firewall (it was previously DNS and secure web gateway only)
- Hong Kong*: Now enabled for full SIG services, including cloud firewall (it was previously DNS, secure web gateway, and disaster recovery for cloud firewall)
- Osaka, Japan: Now enabled for DNS and secure web gateway. Additionally, it is now the disaster recovery site for our Asia and Australia data centers.
A new region was created for IPsec tunnel connections: AS-2. The initial members of this region are Mumbai and Hong Kong. In the future, the AS-2 region will consist of two data centers in India. At that time the Hong Kong data center will receive a new IP address and be assigned to a new region.
The upgrades to these edge data centers expands our rapidly growing global network. Due to our innovative global cloud architecture and anycast routing, most customers in these regions will automatically connect to the upgraded data centers.
Also, while we strive to maintain high uptime for all of our data centers, our augmented routing solution seamlessly and automatically routes traffic to the next nearest data center if for any reason a data center is unavailable, even for IPsec tunnels.
*The legal/regulatory landscape in China is complex and changing, including in the areas of cybersecurity and data protection. Cisco recommends all customers consult with their legal advisors to ensure an understanding of their legal obligations related to the use of Cisco Umbrella in China. Cisco regularly monitors the legal landscape in China and reserves the right to take measures we deem necessary, including modifying and/or shutting down the service for users in China and/or our data center in Hong Kong.
